North Richland Hills, TX · Custom athlete portraits

One athlete.
One portrait.
The one
in their head.

Your athlete already knows what the picture looks like. Everything after that — the session, the compositing, the print — exists to make it real.

Finished hero portrait of Jack Shepherd: a large monochrome portrait of the athlete behind a full-colour cutout of him running with the ball, with his name set across the piece.

Built, not taken

A photograph is captured in a fraction of a second. This is designed first, shot second, then built by hand — concept, composite, grade, retouch — until it is a finished piece of work. Then it is made into something you can hang for good.

  1. 01

    It starts in their head

Before the camera comes out we agree on what the finished portrait is: the pose, the light, the scene it will live in. The shoot exists to serve that picture.

  2. 02

    One athlete, one session

However long it takes. The session runs until the frame is right, not until the clock says stop — time and attention are what separate a portrait from a photograph.

  3. 03

Built by hand, frame by frame

Every hero image is cut from its background, composited into an art-directed scene, graded and retouched individually. That is hours of work per image, and it is the whole point.

  4. 04

    Made to outlast the season

The framed piece is built to conservation standard: 100% cotton rag matting, museum-grade UV glazing, and fully reversible mounting, so nothing adhesive ever touches the print. It can be re-framed in thirty years without damage. Seasons end. This does not.

About

I am Brandon Garner. I photograph one athlete at a time, out of North Richland Hills, TX.

I started doing this the way most people do — shooting games, handing over a gallery, moving on. The pictures were fine. None of them ended up on a wall.

So I changed the job. Now every athlete gets a session built around them and one finished piece that took real hours to make: cut out by hand, composited onto a scene we planned together, graded and retouched until it holds up printed large. It is slower and it does not scale, and that is exactly why it looks the way it does.

If that is the kind of portrait you want for your athlete, get in touch and tell me about them.
